jones the grocer was first opened in the affluent suburb of Woollahra, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, by Lindsay Jones-Evans in 1996. The concept, which included one long communal table for meals and a walk-in cheese room, was well ahead of its time. By 2002 the jones the grocer concept was ready for expansion and commenced its development through a network of franchised stores. As the concept continued to grow so did the business requirement for more infrastructure and support. In 2003 long standing Melbourne based food distribution business Senselle Foods purchased the group and integrated the sourcing, purchasing and franchisor management functions into their core business. Now, some eleven years later, the jones the grocer family has grown to ten (10) stores in NSW, ACT and Queensland. The group also has a franchised store in Auckland, New Zealand and is planning more stores in South East Asia through a variety of joint venture and company owned formats .
